    WHAT IS EVALUATION?<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

    Evaluation is a process that leads to the hidden<\/strong> privatization of public<\/strong> schools. <\/strong>It has been applied for decades in other countries (see USA, England, Australia, Sweden, etc.) with disastrous results. More specifically:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Schools are now transformed into small enterprises. They must seek sponsors<\/strong> to provide the necessary means for surviving underfunding, while teachers are being evaluated against their competence as managers<\/strong> to attract money for their school budget.<\/li>\n
    2. Schools will henceforth be compared to each other and will be divided into “good” and “bad”. A school will be labelled as “bad” <\/strong>when it has not been able to secure through sponsors the funding<\/strong> for its heating, maintenance, etc., when its students perform<\/strong> poorly<\/strong> comparing to students of other schools, etc.<\/li>\n
    3. Panhellenic examinations <\/strong>(called Greek PISA by the government) are being organized for the sixth grade of primary school, with the aim of connecting students\u2019 performance with their school\u2019s evaluation and consequently its funding. E<\/strong>xams<\/strong> fill children with anxiety<\/strong>, turn the whole school year into a preparation for the exams and sideline the subjects that are not tested (all the other subjects except Language and Mathematics). Hence, such high stakes testing eliminates learning through play, through debates, arts, etc.<\/li>\n
    4. Parents<\/strong> will have to pay more<\/strong> for their children\u2019s education if their school happens to have a low score in its evaluation, and therefore low funding.<\/li>\n
    5. Next step will be to give parents themselves the opportunity to make a choice between the “good” schools and the “bad” ones. Will ALL parents be able to choose the “good” school though? NO, not really. In the end, schools are those that choose students, since “bad” students will be a threat <\/strong>to the successful evaluation of the school and, consequently, to its funding!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      We want a school of knowledge and freedom,<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

      a school that does not separate but unites, a school that does not exclude but embraces!<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

      Public schools do not belong to any minister or sponsor! <\/strong><\/p>\n

      They belong to their students only, <\/strong>so any change introduced should only be to their own best interest!<\/strong><\/p>\n

      The Ministry of Education does not really care about education<\/u><\/strong>,<\/p>\n

      since it is the only responsible that our schools have shortage of teachers since the beginning of the year, that their funding is reduced every year,<\/strong> that school buildings<\/strong> are unsuitable and school infrastructure is poor. The Ministry is also \u00a0responsible for<\/strong> the mess in e-learning! <\/strong>The Ministry is solely to blame for taking no measures to space out students in classrooms <\/strong>amid coronavirus: on the contrary, the government increased the number of<\/strong> students<\/strong> per class!<\/p>\n

      As we fought together<\/strong> during e-learning, students, parents and teachers, we kept schooling alive, <\/strong>while the Ministry allowed the exclusion from e-learning of those children that did not have a laptop or an adequate microphone or a fast internet connection or… once again we call on you to prevent any child or school to be excluded from equal rights to education, and to prevent education from being dependent on any sponsor!
      \nWe are part of a society fighting for a better tomorrow. We experience what you experience, we are on the same side and not opposite, as the Ministry would like us to be.
      \nWe are against evaluation system not out of laziness but out of concern for our students and for the future society they will have to live in.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      We call on you to fight together to <\/strong>defend <\/strong>equal access to education for all children, to defend the public character of schooling!<\/strong><\/p>\n
